LISTEN TO DENE TALK
Creating can feel like being stuck in traffic with a toddler in the back seat. Confronting creative blocks can seem impossible.
Creating can feel like being lost in the desert dying of thirst and with the state of the world these days, what’s the point of being creative?
In this episode, we hear from jaye simpson, an Oji-Cree Saulteaux poet, writer, and thinker and Nicole Neildhart, a Navajo multi-media artist exploring Indigenous beauty, love, and futurisms. In our conversation with these two Indigenous Creators, we delve into the wave of Indigenous brilliance making the future bright for Indigenous peoples.
In this episode, we hear from two land and water defenders: Pihesiw is a Nehiyaw full spectrum birth worker, sexual health educator, and land and water defender from Sampson Cree First Nation and Nila-Aks is a Gitxan storyteller, film maker, writer, and land and water defender from the village Inspia of Gitxan Nation. Through their stories we explore the history of colonial violence and the modern implications, about resistance from birth work to land defense work, and how it’s all connected.
In this episode, we hear from two Indigenous women: Shayli Robinson and Gwen Villebrun. Through their stories, we explore the challenges that Indigenous women face through their lives. We hear stories of violence, dispossession, shame, but also about reclamation, connection and hope.
